As we gear up to celebrate Africa Day on Saturday, May 25th, I am delighted to extend an invitation to you and your esteemed club members to participate in a BSA Summit organized by Lillian Osborne’s BSA. Africa Day is celebrated every May 25th. It marks the anniversary of when African leaders came together in 1963 to create the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which later became the African Union. This day is about celebrating Africa's unity, culture, and history. It's a time for people across the continent to come together and reflect on how far Africa has come and how it can continue to grow and prosper. Likewise, the goal is for all of us to unite, build relationships, and strive for prosperity as an emerging community. This summit aims to celebrate the diversity, culture, and contributions of Africa and the Caribbean to the global community. Through engaging activities, insightful discussions, and cultural showcases, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate African and Caribbean culture and build meaningful relationships.
Date: Saturday, May 25, 2024 | Time: 12pm - 3pm | Address: 2019 Leger Road NW (Lillian Osborne High School)
If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to contact Rogers.mokua@epsb.ca.

Where is our community in Alberta? A question asked by many teachers, students, parents and community members. The answer is everywhere! We've taken the time to compile some great resources that can connect our youth to each other in the province. Each school has a BSA Instagram account or a teacher sponsor that can connect them to all activities that we host throughout the year. The Social media presence is also a great way to connect with other schools, take part in events and support one another. Please visit the link below to connect with the many amazing BSA's in and around Alberta.

The Host of this event will be Lillian Osborne and their Black Student Association: LOHBSA. Each year we provide each school in our city with a BSA Summit home where they can enjoy wonderful music, eat delicious African/Caribbean Food, hear poetry, dance, and most of all learn about the rich culture that comes from the Black community in our province and globally. LOHBSA has 30-40 members that meet once a week at school to discuss topics that are very important to Black youth, the Black community and all communities.
Greetings to all teachers, presenters, organizers, sponsors, parents and students.
As part of the provincially recognized and supported Black history month
acknowledgement in Alberta, The Black Teachers Association in collaboration with many. Alberta BSAs are proud to announce the 2nd Annual Alberta Black Student Association Summit! Last year we had 39 events and they all were incredible successes with over 14 schools represented and 200 student attendees. The event was hosted online with special guests such as MLA David Shepherd, The Hon. Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, The University of Alberta BSA, YEG the Come Up, Alain Intwali, Feed the Soul YEG, and the Black Teachers Association of Alberta. This year will be our first in person summit but we will be hosting some sessions so that our family in Calgary and Edmonton can connect and interact with each other.
The BSA Summit is an opportunity to connect our youth with each other, their schools, their teachers, and our community. The opportunities for our youth to converse about various topics related to positive representation, affirmation, mental health, activism, anti-Black racism, Black Excellence and Black history are sometimes not readily available in education. As an organizing committee our hope is to engage our youth in these topics as well as to connect them with other youth across the province, as well as providing various support from the Black community and allies in Alberta.
